From Crisis to Calling: Life Center Voznesensk Opens in Southern Ukraine

Save a Life International will open the doors of Life Center Voznesensk, the very first Life Center in Ukraine's Mykolaiv oblast.

This opening is a testimony of God's faithfulness, restoration, and the beautiful way He continues bringing hope to women and families even in the middle of war.

Voznesensk is a city in southern Ukraine located along the Southern Buh River, north of Mykolaiv. It serves as an important regional hub connecting central Ukraine with the south through major road and railway routes. During the full-scale war, Voznesensk became known for its resistance in March 2022, when Ukrainian defenders and local residents helped stop the Russian advance toward Odessa and central Ukraine.

Since then, the city and surrounding region have continued living with the realities of war: air raid sirens, displacement, financial hardship, trauma, uncertainty, and loss. Families are carrying emotional wounds many never expected to face.

And now, in the middle of these challenges, God has opened the door for a new place of refuge, support, healing, and hope.

What makes the opening of Life Center Voznesensk especially meaningful is the story behind it.

Seven years ago, a young woman named Lyuba walked into our Life Center in Zaporizhzhia carrying fear, pressure, and uncertainty. She was pregnant with her second child and facing painful family circumstances. Like many women in crisis pregnancies, she felt overwhelmed and alone. There were voices of those around her telling her abortion was the only option. She was already raising a little girl and struggling under the emotional and practical weight of her situation.

But in what felt like her darkest moment, God placed people in her path who were willing to walk beside her.

Our volunteers and staff at Life Center Zaporizhzhia surrounded Lyuba with compassion, encouragement, practical help, prayer, and support. One of those volunteers was Anzhela, who faithfully walked alongside her during that difficult season.

Instead of judgment or pressure, Lyuba found women who listened, cared for her, prayed with her, and reminded her she did not have to face everything alone.

The team provided counseling, material aid, emotional support, and spiritual guidance. Through the ministry of the Life Center and the local church connected to it, Lyuba encountered not only practical help, but also the love of Christ in a deeply personal and life-changing way. During her time there, she repented, gave her life to the Lord, and was baptized.

And she chose life.

In November 2025, her son Matviy celebrated his seventh birthday. His life is a reminder that when women are supported, loved, and given hope, lives are changed for generations.

Because every child is precious in the eyes of God. Every woman deserves compassion and support in her hardest moments. And no mother in crisis should ever feel abandoned or alone.

But Lyuba's journey after choosing life was not easy.

As time passed, danger within her family situation increased. The team at Life Center Zaporizhzhia recognized the seriousness of the domestic violence and instability surrounding her and stepped in to help protect her. They assisted her evacuation, helped her leave safely, and worked to keep her and her children away from further harm.

Later, Life Center Chernivtsi continued supporting her after the evacuation. The team there helped her find housing, rebuild stability, and begin creating a new future for herself and her children. They continued walking beside her through practical support, emotional care, discipleship, and community during a season when starting over felt overwhelming.

Little by little, God began restoring what had been broken. And then something beautiful happened. The woman who once came seeking help became the woman helping others.

Over time, Lyuba joined the ministry team and eventually became the administrator of Life Center Chernivtsi. The same woman who had once arrived carrying fear and uncertainty was now walking alongside other women facing crisis pregnancies, trauma, abuse, fear, and difficult decisions.

She understood their pain because she had lived it herself.

She knew what it felt like to need someone to listen, need protection, practical support, and emotional healing. To need hope. To need Jesus.

Today, Lyuba's story continues into a new chapter. She is married to a Christian man from Voznesensk and has now moved to this city in southern Ukraine. Through her story and God's guidance, the door opened for Save a Life International to establish Life Center Voznesensk, the first Life Center in Mykolaiv oblast.

What once began with a frightened young mother walking into a center for help has now become the beginning of a new ministry reaching countless other women and families.

Life Center Voznesensk will provide support for pregnant women, young mothers, and families in crisis through practical assistance, counseling, discipleship, education, and material aid. Through programs like Learn & Earn, women will receive parenting education, life skills training, budgeting support, emotional and psychological care, mentorship, spiritual encouragement, and opportunities to grow in confidence and stability as mothers.

The center will focus not only on immediate needs, but on long-term restoration.

Women will have access to emotional and mental health support, guidance through difficult situations, practical learning opportunities, and a safe community where they can encounter both compassion and truth. They will receive help navigating motherhood, relationships, finances, and personal growth while also being invited into deeper faith, prayer, and relationship with Christ.

The goal is not simply to help women survive a crisis moment. The goal is to walk beside them as they heal, grow, and rediscover their God-given value and purpose.

In a world where many women feel disposable, forgotten, or pressured into hopelessness, Life Center Voznesensk will remind them that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved by God.

In wartime Ukraine, places like this matter deeply.

Many women are navigating pregnancy, motherhood, displacement, poverty, trauma, grief, and fear all at once. Transportation is difficult. Resources are limited. Emotional exhaustion runs deep. Yet even in the middle of war, God continues opening doors to protect life and bring light into dark places.

Life Center Voznesensk stands as a testimony not only of ministry growth, but of redemption.

It reflects the heart behind Save a Life International's mission: meeting women in practical ways while pointing them toward lasting hope in Christ. It is about more than emergency support. It is about walking with women long enough to see healing, restoration, discipleship, stability, and transformation take root.

Lyuba's story reminds us that ministry is never just about programs or buildings. It is about the mother who thinks she has nowhere to turn, the woman escaping violence, the child whose life hangs in the balance, each volunteer who chooses compassion, the churches that open their doors, the team members who continue serving faithfully during war, and the God who continues bringing beauty from ashes.

Seven years ago, Lyuba needed someone to stand beside her. Today, she is helping open the doors for countless other women to find the same hope she once received.

Life Center Voznesensk is a living testimony of redemption, discipleship, healing, courage, and God's faithfulness through every season.
